PeoplePerhaps the most exciting aspect of Integral philosophy is that it naturally manifests a "community of the adequate"—people sufficiently evolved and able to dialog and understand each other at a whole new level. In this we are all simultaneously teachers and students to one another. Many wonderful opportunities emerge to work together to serve, support, and bless each other and all beings. Here are a few of my partners in service: Ken Wilber
Frank Marrero Frank Marrero is a playful, energetic, and inspiring presence. Although he comes across as a Southern "good old boy," he is an illumined authority on pre-Socratic Greece, a pioneering genius in character education, the biographer of early aviator Lincoln Beachey, and a 5th grade public schoolteacher in Richmond, California. He is also my 30-year buddy and dear Bhagavan.
Integral Coaching Canada My life and coaching has been deepened and uplifted by the influence of Joanne Hunt and Laura Divine and their Ottawa-based school of professional coaching, Integral Coaching Canada. ICC's two-year trainings produce profoundly effective coaches based on the impeccable application of Integral principles. Integral Institute has partnered with Integral Coaching Canada to take Integral Coaching® world-wide, and I have been a part of that initiative since its inception.
The Boulder Center for Integral Living After leading Integral Institute's Seminars, my friend Jeff Salzman joined with other dear integral friends to found an exciting new organization and center dedicated to personal growth, practice, and community for integrally-inspired people. BCIL (and Jeff's guest room) have been an important second home for me. I think BCIL will prove to be leading institution in actualizing the "integral wave" of cultural evolution.
Patrick Sweeney Patrick Sweeney is the Vajra heir of famed Kagyu teacher Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and the founder of Satdharma, which contains the Ojai Valley Dharma Center, Pullahari Retreat Center, and the Vajra Regent Ösel Tendzin Library and Archives. A member of Integral Spiritual Center, as well as a friend, dharma brother, and teacher, Patrick and I co-led (with Diane Hamilton) an I-I Seminar in Integral Buddhism in May 2007, and are continuing to work together to articulate and clarify an authentic Integral Buddhist view and practice.
Genpo Roshi & KZC Genpo Roshi is one of the preeminent Western Zen Masters in the world today. He is the former head of the White Plum school and the founder of the remarkable Big Mind Process and the Kanzeon Zen Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is a wise teacher and friend who has opened important doors for me. I'm proud to be a Certified Big Mind Facilitator.
Diane Hamilton Diane Hamilton is a dharma successor of Genpo Roshi, and is his first successor in the Big Mind lineage. She is also a professional mediator, group facilitator, and trainer in conflict resolution. She was also my close friend and dear colleague during more than a dozen Integral Institute seminars, and as a part of the core team that developed Integral Life Practice. She continues to delight and surprise me as a creative and playful colleague and companion on the path.
Steve McIntosh Steve McIntosh is an independent Integral scholar and author of the important book, Integral Consciousness and the Future of Evolution: How the Integral Worldview is Transforming Politics, Culture and Spirituality. He is an original member of Integral Institute, an attorney, a businessman (Now & Zen, Inc.) and a brilliant cutting-edge Integral philosopher. He is also a great friend and ally in the commitment to helping clarify, articulate, and serve the emergence of a new, awakened Integral age.
Susanne Cook-Greuter Susanne Cook-Greuter is a Harvard developmental psychologist whose pioneering research expanded Jane Loevinger’s stages of ego development, identifying two additional advanced stages. She has a nuanced understanding of higher development, a rigorous approach to the science behind it, and a delightfully authentic and playful spirit. All three have inspired, instructed, and influenced me and many other serious students and teachers of Integral theory.
Deborah Boyar My dear wife, Deborah Boyar, Ph.D., is an extremely talented somatic psychotherapist, counselor, and teacher in the Waking Down school of spiritual and human integration. Trained in Somatic Experiencing and Bodynamics, among other disciplines, Deborah specializes in helping people face their trauma and in accepting it and healing, discovering a path of awakening. Her profoundly gentle sensitivity to the most delicate fabrics of the wounded psyche make her an angelic being in the lives of many people, especially those of my son and me! She’s also an artist-photographer, and took many of the pictures on this site.
Ray Lynch Ray Lynch is one of my oldest, dearest friends, and the creator of some of the most beautiful, buoyant, conscious, clear, and awakened music I’ve ever heard. For several years Ray has been working on a new passion: whole numbers and deep (previously unseen) patterns that appear among prime numbers. The working title of the mathematics book he is writing is If One Is All You’ve Got, How Do You Get To Two?
Rick Hanson and the Heartwood Institute
Old-Growth Again Restorative Forestry OGA was founded twelve years ago by my dear friend Raul Hernandez to demonstrate a new economic model for the restoration management of Coastal Redwood forests. Today, OGA manages about 400 acres of coastal Redwood forests in Northern California, and builds the highest quality Redwood patio furniture to fund its restoration practices. Since its beginning, I’ve supported OGA as an advisor, board member, business partner, and investor.
Zoosphere I got to know Marco Morelli at Integral Institute and as a co-author (with me, Ken Wilber, and Adam Leonard) of Integral Life Practice: How To Design Your Own Training Program for Body, Mind, and Spirit (coming from Integral Books/Shambhala in September 2008.) In the process, we became good friends and effective creative collaborators, and Marco got married to Kayla—a talented graphic designer. Together, they gave birth to Zoosphere, whose design and editorial services helped create the cool look of this website!
